Autonomic Apple TV control model for Crestron
On a personal basis, I’ve been a fan of Apple TV for a while.
It’s user-friendly, pretty intuitive and provides ready access to a massive media library. At under £200 if you shop around, it’s surprisingly good value in comparison to alternative products with similar functionality.
But on a professional basis, I’ve stayed well away. The problem is that it’s impossible to fully integrate with any home automation system, so it’s no good for any kind of serious home audio or video setup. Furthermore, for a home entertainment installer, creating a seamless experience for the user has been a nightmare.
Until now, that is. Thanks to Autonomic’s new 2-way Apple TV control module for Crestron.
Good news all round, if you ask me.
First off, it’s the right tie-up. I like Crestron, which I use in pretty much all my projects, whether it’s home cinema, multi-room video or audio or full-on home automation.
Coupled with a Crestron system, multiple Apple TV’s can been connected to make up a full multi room system, with different content viewed or heard around the home, streaming from one single media library.
What’s more, the Autonomic plug-in allows proper integrated 2-way control from any Crestron touchscreen in the house – so you can use the touchscreen to control the video or music, as well as viewing the artwork and track lists.
It supports all iTunes content, from music, podcasts and audiobooks, to TV shows and even HD movies, and any new content is automatically pushed to the Apple TV, so there’s no need for manual synchronisation.
So if you’re looking for flexible, user-friendly, cost effective alternative to traditional audio, video or media servers, if you want my advice, look no further than Autonomic and Apple TV.
